Willie James Bill Whitney, Sr, 98, died at home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. Born in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA, in 1913, he was a 60 year resident of Central, LA. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II with the 19th Combat Engineer Regiment. A master builder, he was a member of Local Carpenters Union 1098. He is survived by eight children, Marlene Whitney Rugg, Alicia Whitney Brumfield, Jeanne Whitney Christensen, Willie J. Bill Whitney, Jr, Newell K. Whitney, Cina Whitney Guy, Richard A. Whitney, and Delia Whitney Rotolo three siblings, Pearl Whitney Gros of Labadieville, and Mae Whitney Soudlier and Daniel G. Whitney, both of Houma. He was blessed with 35 grandchildren and 73 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Greet Kolb Whitney three siblings, Sewele J. Whitney, Rita Whitney Malbrough, and Robert A. Whitney two grandsons and a greatgranddaughter. Visiting at The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints, 4901 Harding St., Baker, on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 from 9am until services at 11am. Interment with military honors to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge.
