William Boyd, Jr.

William Boyd, Jr., 88, was born April 21, 1923 in New Roads, Louisiana, where he grew up, then eventually moved to Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served in the 92nd Division. He was a retired masonry contractor, and instructor for the former Local 5 Brick Layer School, where he touched the lives of many young brick layers. He died Thursday, October 13, 2011, at his home. William, more affectionately known as Sweetie, Baby, and Uncle William, will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Velma Bell Boyd five brothers and a sister, Sidney Boyd and George Evans Carrie, Sacramento, CA, Raphael Stella and George of Baton Rouge, James Larry Phyllis of Riverside, CA, and Verna St. Amant Eugene, Cypress, CA a brotherinlaw, Weldon Bell a sisterinlaw, Geraldine Bell and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Boyd, Sr. and Virginia LeBeau Boyd a brother, John Wesley Boyd four sistersinlaw, Thelma Desormes Boyd, Catherine Bienville Boyd, Bertha Desormes Boyd, and Theresa Key Bell and a brotherinlaw, Arthur Bell. Visiting at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 9:00am until recitation of the rosary at 10:45am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, with the Rev. Michael J. Collins, celebrant. Interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family extends its special thanks to the staffs of PACE of Baton Rouge, Home Watch, and St. Joseph Hospice, and to the various medical personnel who attended his needs with compassion and professionalism.
