Vernell M. Bates, 71, a resident of St. Francisville and a native Gonzales, LA, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice, Baton Rouge. She enjoyed her life as she lived in her dream home with her beloved husband of 14 years. Most days you would find her with her friends in the Ladies Golf Association at The Bluffs playing golf, one of her favorite things to do in life. She enjoyed playing tournament golf, and she was good at it. She had a love for cooking and often cooked recipes from one of her many cook books.
Vernell is survived by her loving husband, Robert J. Bates; daughter, Stacy Betsill; son, Mark Malbrough and wife Misty; step-daughter, Brandi Aljariri and husband Mohamed; sister, Belva Diez; brother, Bro Elisar and wife Betty; and her 6 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wickliff and Anisette Elisar; step-father, John Elisar; and her sister, Rebecca "Lulu" Guidry.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 3, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life begins at 7:00 p.m.
