Velma Pickering

A resident of Oakwood Manor Assisted Living Center in Zachary, she passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lane Regional Medical Center, from where she was a retired LPN. She was 93, and a native of Pleasant Hill. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Tuesday, November 12, from 58pm. Graveside services at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 13, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6305 Groom Road, Baker. She is survived by a son and daughterinlaw, Tommy and Brenda Caldwell of Zachary two sisters, Bytha Norris Edwards and Dorothy Jerry three grandchildren, Lana Martin of Central, Jason Caldwell of Hope, AR, and Samantha Whartonbe of Wichita, KS 12 greatgrandchildren and seven greatgreatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Sharkey first husband, Joseph T. Caldwell second husband, John W. Pickering two brothers and one sister. Velma lived a long, eventful life. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and made amazing things until her eyesight failed her. She was a very outdoorsy person, and loved hunting and fishing.
