Velma Freeman

A retired CNA with Lane Regional Medical Center and a resident of Zachary, she passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 4:15am at Zachary Manor Nursing Home. She was 87 and a native of Bastrop. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 26pm. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Kay Ballard a son, Leo Freeman, Jr, two grandchildren, Rodney Dow Ballard Jr. and wife, Shannon, and Mechelle Ballard a great grandson, Brennan Ballard and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Freeman, Sr., who was a Master Mason at the Baker Lodge a brother, Edgar McClure three sisters, Notrea Prewitt, Georgie Nettles, and Alma Miller and her parents, Robert Lee and Alma Norton McClure. Velma was a graduate of Istrouma High School, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to help offset funeral expenses.
