I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. She was a retired teacher, having taught in Texas and Alabama, and a resident of Baker. She was 87, born May 8, 1923, in Sulligent, Ala. She passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 14, and Tuesday from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Rick McAllister. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. She is survived by a daughterinlaw, Fay Hollis three grandchildren, Jimmy Hollis and wife Kim, Shelley Chaney and husband Brent, and Stacey Laird and husband Harold five greatgrandchildren, David Chaney, Sean Chaney, Rebecca Hollis, Jacob Parker, and Matilyn Mattie Laird and a greatgreatgrandson, Adam James Chaney. Preceded in death by her husband, James F. Ned Hollis parents, Edd and Mattie Lou Strawbridge only son, James L. Hollis sisters, Rosa Louise Pilgreen and Mary Florence Strawbridge and brother, James Henson Strawbridge. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Protestant Church. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Service of the Capital Area.
