Steven Edward "Pops" Carter, 62, beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather was called from his earthly home to his eternal resting place on May 19, 2016. He entered this world on July 31, 1953 in Baton Rouge, LA, born to Glynn Carter and Marveline Ferguson (Carter) Gurney. Steven enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his Harley. He loved his vocation as he worked in the construction field for over 40 years. He was a talented welder and fabricator, if he could draw it on paper, he could build it. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Steven is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carol Bueche Carter; daughter and pride and joy, Katie Carter Newsom and husband, Doug; parents, Jerry and Julia "Marveline" Gurney; three grandchildren, his little buddies, twin grandsons Mason Carter and Colin Michael Newsom and newest little angel, Kellyn Rose Newsom; sister, Lisa Teal; brother, Danny Carter; two step-brothers, Randy Gurney and Johnny Gurney; and half-brother, Shane Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews and family.
Steven is preceded in death by his father, Glynn Edward Carter; grandparents, Ira and Eunice Carter, Preston and Sula Ferguson, I.T. and Ethel Gurney; and in-laws Edgar and Helen Bueche.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visiting will continue on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home from 9:00 am until the celebration of life service at 11:00 am officiated by Deacon Shelly Joseph and Reverend Clint Stewart.
The graveside service and burial will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Baker, LA.
Pallbearers will be members of his family.
