Shirley Mccoy

A resident of Baker, Shirley passed away peacefully at The Crossing of Clarity Hospice on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. She was 95, a native of Innis, LA, and a former longtime resident of Westbury, New York.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Saturday, April 11, from 9:30am until religious services in the chapel at 10:30am, conducted by Deacon Don Ard. Graveside services will be at 1pm in the Providence Memorial Park, Metairie.

Shirley is survived by two nieces, Glenda Bryant, and Paulette Harris and husband, George; three nephews, James Butler, Jr., Calvin Slocum, and Earnest Lee Bryant; a great niece; three great nephews; a great-great niece; a great-great nephew; and a host of extended family members, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman McCoy; a son, Anthony Rodney McCoy; a sister, Ireatha Watson; two brothers, Ernest Lee Bryant and James Butler, Sr.; and her parents, Lizzie Lucreasy Lewis and Tom Butler.

Shirley was a member of The Small Business Merchants of Westbury, New York, and St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church. She was founder of The McCoy's Family Center, and was a board member and philanthropist of Miss Shelley's Upward Prep, Inc. She was a true matriarch in her community, and will be deeply missed.
