Roy Louis Moran, 83, a resident of Clinton, Louisiana, passed away on October 24, 2022. Roy was born on January 31, 1939, in Pass Christian, Mississippi, to Roy Provost Moran and Ethel Mae Shavers Moran, who both preceded him in death. He is a graduate of Istrouma High School, Baton Rouge, class of 1957, and later acquired a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pacific Western University. He married Barbara Allen Brown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 22, 1955. Together, they served God in many capacities. Roy was talented and loved music, so he used that talent to glorify His Lord, serving as Church Music Director at Broussard Grove Baptist Church, Prairieville; Cedarcrest Baptist Church, Baton Rouge; Sorrento Baptist Church, Sorrento; Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Pride; Flaming Gorge Baptist Church, Green River, Wyoming; Monroe Avenue Baptist Church, Green River; and Braeburn Valley Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. He worked at Allied Chemical in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and later in Green River, Wyoming. One of his strongest desires and accomplishments was to travel and see the world. He accomplished this when he became employed with M.W. Kellogg, Houston, Texas. A final endeavor that he felt strongly about was his work as a house parent for troubled boys at the Methodist Children's Home Boys' Ranch.
Roy is survived by son, Roy Allen Moran (Rip) and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kent Moran of Leander, Texas; daughter, Karen Moran Breeden (Kay) and son-in-law, David Breeden (Doe) of Pride, Louisiana; daughter, Kim Moran VanAckeren (Winky) and son-in-law, Donald VanAckeren (Donnie) of Friendswood, Texas; and daughter, Laurie Moran Drinkle and fiancé, Dave Shillcox of Green River, Wyoming; sister, Viola Singleton; brother, Donnie Moran; nine grandchildren, Jeremiah David Breeden (Stephanie), James Robert Drinkle, Rachel Moran Brewton (Jeff), Michael Allen Drinkle (Mandi), Nicole Moran Higginbotham (Aubrey), Sara Breeden Gomez (Marlon), Jennifer VanAckeren Barmore (Blake), Allison Breeden Chaisson (Lenny), Jordan VanAckeren; honorary grandchild, Billie Jo Baxley; and also, eighteen great grandchildren. While serving as a house parent at the Children's Home, he also touched the lives of many young boys that have considered him an "adoptive" parent or grandparent.
Roy was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Barbara Brown Moran. His mother and father-in-law, Edwin and Elma Brown, whom he loved dearly and considered as his own parents, also preceded him in death.
Visiting hours will take place at Sandy Creek Baptist Church in Pride, Louisiana, on Monday, November 7, 2022, from 9:00 am until services at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Breeden, James Drinkle, AJ Brewton, Michael Drinkle, Aubrey Higginbotham, Marlon Gomez, Blake Barmore, Lenny Chaisson, and Jordan VanAckeren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Gideon's International.
The family of Roy Moran wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our dear friends and loved ones for all the many ways you have shown us your love.
