Rose Creel Epperson, a native of Winnfield, LA and resident of Baker, LA, passed away, Sunday, August 26, 2018, at the age of 85. She was born on April 3, 1933, in Winnfield, LA. Rose was educated at Winnfield High School, Northwestern State University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education, and Louisiana State University with a master's degree in Library Science. While at Northwestern State University, Rose was member of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band where she served as a majorette. Rose was elected as the State Fair Queen for the Northwestern vs. Louisiana Tech football game in Shreveport, LA. She was also named queen of the Central Louisiana Fair game between Northwestern and Louisiana College in Alexandria, LA.
Rose was a retired teacher from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System with 25 years of service, a retired business owner of 20 years, and retired church organist of First Baptist Church of Baker with 51 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, the Louisiana Florist Association, and the Northwestern Demons Unlimited Foundation.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Riley H. Creel and Leona B. Creel; and brothers, Riley H. Creel, Jr. and Adonis Creel.
Rose is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jerry G. Epperson, daughter, Lyn Kenyon and husband Lester Kenyon; son, Lt. Col. Retired David Epperson and wife Debbie; and son, Dr. Larry Epperson and wife Jennifer. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Victoria, Jessica, Weston, Elisabeth, and Sarah.
Pallbearers will be Baker Boyd, Richie Bullock, Joe Calloway, Albert Dake, Lee Faucette, John Mitchell, Warren Pratt, and Paul Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Epperson's assisted living Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Baker.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First Baptist Church of Baker, 3213 Groom Road, Baker, Louisiana, on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Jay Avance and Reverend B.K. Miller. The Burial will follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary. Louisiana.
