A resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was 58 and of the Methodist Faith. He was a native of Memphis, Tennessee, but spent most of his life in Baker and Baton Rouge. He was a 1972 graduate of Baker High School, and played drums in the high school band. Music was always a passion in his life, and he was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. Ronnie attended LSU, and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Marketing. He worked in sales and customer service before retiring in 2012. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 11am, conducted by Rev. Gene Rives. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Survived by his mother, Maureen Cupit sister and brotherinlaw, Jana and David Owens brother and sisterinlaw, Gary and Vikki Smith, and his beloved nieces, Kayleigh Smith, Ashleigh Smith, Natalie Owens, and Sarah Owens Davis and her husband, Brad. Preceded in death by his father, Dr. Cleveland Benton Smith his stepfather, Harold Cupit and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Garland Dawkins, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude B. Smith. Ronnie was a big man with a big heart. He was very kind to those he met, remembered all the family birthdays and special events, and loved children. He enjoyed family parties and the antics of his four nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, First United Methodist Church of Baker, or a charity of your choice.
