Roland Smith "Poppy" Alford Sr., 88 years old, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 2, 2021. He entered this world on October 19, 1932, born to Isyel Smith and Emmit Alford, in Biloxi, MS. Roland honorably served his country in the United States Navy in the Korean War on a aircraft carrier as a Fireman in the boiler room. He loved watching ballgames and playing cards every afternoon.
Roland is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joy Parrish Alford; sons, Roland Alford, Jr. (Lisa), and Russell "Rusty" Alford; daughters, Gina Alford Blount (Keith), and Connie Alford Miller (Dwayne); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Roland is preceded in death by his father, Emmit Smith Alford; mother, Isyel Manuade Smith Alford; and sister, Myra Jean Alford Wheeler.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, Louisiana, on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:30 AM, officiated by Keith Blount. The graveside service with military honors will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery, in Zachary, Louisiana.
