Richmond passed away peacefully Friday, October 18, 2013 at Heritage Manor in Baton Rouge. He was born May 3, 1930 in Electric Mills, in Kemper County of Mississippi. Richmond traveled as a child between Franklinton, Baton Rouge, and Bogalusa until they settled in Biloxi in 1942. He combed the beaches of Biloxi as a youth and graduated from Biloxi High School in 1949. When Richmond moved back to Baton Rouge he began working for Southern Bell Telephone. He proudly served our country in the United States Army overseas from 1952 1954. Richmond returned to Southern Bell Telephone and retired after 34 years in 1983. In retirement, he enjoyed working part time for Hertz Rental Company.
Richmond met his true love, Maudine Ard, when they were children in Bogalusa. Upon returning to Louisiana from the Army, he sought her affections again. They married soon after in Bogalusa returned to Baton Rouge in 1954. They stayed happily married for over 51 years until her passing in 2005. Richmond loved LSU Football, LSU Baseball traveling with Maudine during his retirement years.
Richmond is preceded in death by his parents Richmond F. Kemp, Sr. Mary Abney Kemp. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Maudine and son Philip Pepper Kemp.
He is survived by his sons David, Stephen, and Richmond, grandchildren Laura Kemp Adcock and husband Jordan, William Kemp and Nicole Kemp, and greatgranddaughter Raelynn.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from the chapel of Baker Funeral Home on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with the visitation beginning at 12:00 noon. Rev. Dennis Allen will officiate the service and the entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
