Rexell Howard Whalen, 83 years old, beloved husband, father, and friend to many was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 21, 2024. He entered this world on July 10, 1940, born to Charlene and Howard Whalen, in Praco, AL. He attended school at Purdue University and graduated from the University of Northern Alabama. He majored in political science and biology.
Rexell honorably served his country as a captain in the United States Army. He also was the proud recipient of the First Degree Medal of Honor, from the Republic of Vietnam, for his dedicated and sincere support of The Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam.
"Rex" is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Gloria Whalen; sons, Thomas Whalen, Jonathan Whalen, and Eric Whalen; step son, Andrew Edson; biological daughters, Patricia Whalen, Jennifer Whalen, Belin Wills; step daughters, Heide Edson, Wendy Marmol and Solangel Dunn; Biological grandchildren, Erienne Keefe, Mason White, Davis White, Casey Rabbe, Mischa Rabbe, Bella Jenkins, Jack Jenkins; grandchildren, Michael Adams, Angelisa Adams, Ariel Adams Victoria Marmol, and Larkin Dunn; Great-grandchildren, Keira Keefe, Molly Keefe, and William Keefe; brothers, Tony & Billy Whalen; and sister, Judy Whalen Evans. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends!
Rexell is preceded in death by his father, Howard Clearance Whalen; mother, Charlene Taylor (Whalen); and sister, Sue Kiker.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 12:30 PM, officiated by Reverend Dorsey Sandifer. The graveside service with military honors will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery, in Zachary, Louisiana.
