Olar Earl Smith, 95 years old, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 13, 2023. He entered this world on January 30, 1928, born to Rosa and Olar Smith, in Magnolia, MS. Olar honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Food Town as the manager of many locations. He then opened his own grocery store, D&E Grocery in Central. He enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family. He and his wife were part of the Bayou Classic Couples Fishing Club for many years and loved fishing in tournaments together. A family fish fry was the highlight of many holidays.
Olar is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy Cambre Smith; daughters, Debbie Shaffett and husband David, Linda Guidroz and husband Jimmy, and Diane Holden; son, Bill Smith; grandchildren, Robby Holden, Patrick Holden, Tara McKenzie, Tonya Treuil, Heather Kuhlman, Tracy Achord, Charmaine Scott, Shanna Marcotte, and Dusty Hernandez; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother, Roy Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Olar is preceded in death by his sons, Robert Earl "Bobby" Smith and E.J. "Manny" Hernandez; daughter Lynda Smith; his parents, Rosa and Olar Smith; brothers, L.D. Smith and Harold Smith; and sister, Vera Scott.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Shaffett, Todd Achord, Reece Achord, Andrew Kuhlman, Brad Treuil, and Clay McKenzie. Honorary pallbearer will be Cooper Shaffett.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Mike Ferguson. The graveside service with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
