Norma Thomas Herring
A gracious, generous woman will be honored with a splendid reputation. - Proverbs 11:16. Norma Thomas Herring, 83, a resident of Baker, LA, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on May 15, 2017. Norma was born on January 28, 1934 to Sam Houston and Thanie Branch Thomas in Tylertown, MS. She was a hardworking, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Baker, where she was committed to all that she did in service to her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a member of the Pilot Club, voted Citizen of the Year in Baker years ago and retired with over 32 years in the banking industry. She was a very giving person with a large heart for her family, friends, neighbors, and community.
Norma is survived by daughter, Jan and Jesse Ballard of Baker; son, Randy and Marguerite Herring of Zachary; 5 grandchildren, Leslie and Kevin Toler, Shaun Mitchell, Jennifer Mitchell, Haleigh and Zack Graham, and Cheryl and Robbie Marsh; 13 great-grandchildren, Adelle, Quinn and Hayes Toler, Lizzy Marsh, Kobie and Faith Anderson, Blake, Sierra, Brandun, Jeremiah, Gavin, Kalie, Allison, and Raya; 1 great-great-grandchild, Kasen Anderson, due to make his arrival in August 2017; and her sister, Nettie Faye Thomas Payne.
Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Leonard Herring; parents, Sam Houston and Thanie Branch Thomas; grandson, Jeremy Mitchell; 11 brothers and 4 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Jason Payne, Michael Thomas, Kevin Toler, Kobie Anderson, Blake Narro, and Brandun Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers Norman E. "Pete" Heine, Travis Thomas, Baker Boyd, Shaun Mitchell, Larry Thomas, Larry Crain, and Keith Payne.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First Baptist Church of Baker, 3212 Groom Road, Baker, LA on Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at First Baptist Church of Baker on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Jay Avance. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker, LA.
