Newton James Ducote, Sr.
A resident of Ethel and a former longtime resident of Baker, Newton passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 19, 2015. He was 84, and a native of Cottonport, LA. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, and retired from Local AFU 102 and Turner Industries.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Sunday, March 22, from 4-8pm, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6pm, led by the nuns of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visiting will resume on Monday, March 23, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 11am. Interment with military honors to follow in Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary. Pallbearers will be Kent Lyons, Jr., Dean Carrier, Jr., Vic Todd, Jr., Joseph Carrier, Gregory Tucker, and Corey Ducote. Honorary pallbearer is George Matthews, Jr.
Newton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille Gaspard Ducote; six children and their spouses, JoAnne and Harry Breeden, Wanda and Craig McCulloch, Jeanette and Dean Carrier, Sr., Cindy and Vic Todd, Sr., Jamie and D'Ette Ducote, and Jodi and Richard Borghese; a sister, Vergie Armond and husband Harry; a brother, Vernon Ducote and wife Charlene; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vergie Lacombe Ducote; father, Sanders Ducote; two sisters; and a brother.
Newton was a longtime member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years.
