Naomi Joyce Austin, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Zachary, Louisiana, on Thursday, August 31, 2017. She was born January 21, 1933 in McLeansboro, Illinois. Joyce came to Louisiana in 1943- Graduated at Pride High School, attended Baton Rouge Business College, worked at Louisiana State Department of Revenue, Greenwell Springs Hospital- in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana and also worked as a childcare provider for many years. After the children she kept were grown, they returned their children for her to care for. Joyce kept the church nursery and kept children when the conferences were held at Milldale Baptist Church for several years.
Joyce was married to Willie J. Austin for 39 years, May 15,1952. They had 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Joni Austin Christiansen; 2 sons, Mantle Joel Austin and wife Lynda R. Austin, Mark Jason Austin and wife Julie W. Austin; grandchildren, Joshua Austin and wife Brandi, Amber Guidry and husband Jeremy, Rachel Johnson, Megan Austin, Shane Christiansen and wife-Kelley, Suni Christiansen, Rudy Austin and wife Lacey, Jesy Austin and wife Lucy, and Ashley Austin; great-grandchildren, Brian Guidry, Brice Guidry, Adrianna Austin, Bailey Mitchell, Caden Austin, Clayton Johnson, Payton Johnson, Dayton Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Morgan Christiansen, Breanna Christiansen, Kolton Christiansen, Nicholas Olsen, Braeyln Christiansen, Tyson Christiansen, Kloey Christiansen and Chloe and Callie Austin; two sisters, Joann Jorgeson of Aurora, Colorado, Margaret Stevens of Pride, Louisiana; brothers, William Robert "Bill" Coffey and wife Sondra of Baton Rouge, Robert Wallace Coffey, Jr. and wife Judy of Alabama, numerous nieces and nephews and other family members of the Coffey and Austin families.
Joyce was preceded in death by husband, Willie J. Austin; son, Marshall J. Austin and daughter in law, Violet Austin; mother, Winifred "Mom" Coffey; father, Robert Wallace Coffey, Sr.; and step-mother, Myrtle Coffey; and sister, Hettie Louise Marguez, brother in law, Gaylan Stevens.
A wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Was always there for you to talk to day or night. She believed in good values and that the Lord had a purpose for everyone and everything.
A member of Milldale Baptist Church, class member of Milldale Senior Class, member of 55 Plus- Zachary, La., Primetime- Zachary First Baptist Church, member of AARP, member of Lifespan- Baton Rouge, La., member of COA, and a former member of Deerford Dames Club.
Donations may be made to St. Jude or Milldale Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Milldale Baptist Church, 11950 Milldale Road, Zachary, Louisiana on Wednesday, September 6. 2017, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm with the memorial service at 5:00 p.m conducted by Reverend Danny Greig. A private graveside service will follow at a later date.
