A native and resident of Baker, she passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2:40pm at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 92, a registered nurse and housewife, and wife of Robert Angell, former Army Purchasing Agent. She was the daughter of the late Dan Ella Powers and P.T. Carpenter, noted farmer and rancher. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 46pm. Graveside service with military honors at Port Hudson National Cemetery on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 12:30pm. She is survived by her husband, Robert Angell of Baker a sister, Marie Starns of Baton Rouge two brothers, James Elder Carpenter of Central, and Henry Lathan Carpenter of Tecumseh, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Bunk and Huey Rabbit Carpenter and four sisters, Hannah Keowen, Eva Ceili Lambert, Bessie Booker, and Minnie Sally Cole. Myrtle was educated in East Baton Rouge Parish schools, and a graduate of Baton Rouge General Medical Center School of Nursing. After graduation, she enrolled in the Army Nurse Corp and served two years during World War II with the 56th Evacuation Hospital in North Africa and Italy. Upon termination of the war, she served in various nursing capacities throughout Louisiana and New Mexico. She married Robert Angell in 1955, and continued her nursing career at locations where he was stationed, including New York, Virginia and Arizona. She was a member of the nursing staff at Cochise County Hospital in Douglas, AZ and Raymond W. Bliss Hospital in Fort Huachuca, AZ. Myrtle was very fond of the outdoors. She loved to hike and take advantage of the camping facilities in Arizona and surrounding states. She had a deep sense of caring and compassion. She was very unselfish and selfsacrificing truly a lovely, elegant lady.
