Mary Jones

The gates of heaven opened wide on March 19, 2024 to receive the sweet soul of Mary Helen Potts Jones, beloved mother, grand and great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and lifelong resident of Baker. Born on May 15, 1933 in Baton Rouge, LA, Mary Helen was the 5th of 7 children "gifted by God" to parents John Howard Potts Sr. and Mary Helena Fabacher Potts. Her attendance at St. Joseph Elementary and the Academy of the Sacred Heart School shaped her lifetime commitment to her Catholic faith, with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary, as well as to her late husband Joseph T. "Jay" Jones, Jr. and her four children. She was a dedicated member of the St. Isidore Home & School Association, the KC Council #4085 Ladies Auxiliary and the Legion of Mary.

She is survived by her children Mary Alice and husband Don Sears, Carol Jones Mayeux, and Tom Jones; sisters Mary Elizabeth Potts Kelley, Katherine Lynette Potts, and Ursula Potts Johnson; her 8 grandchildren: Valerie, Shannon, Rebecca, Rachel, Thomas, Morgan, Brian, and Barton; and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jay, son Patrick Jones, and siblings Patrea Potts, Mary Josephine Potts Meyer, and John Howard Potts Jr.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm; recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Visitation will also be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Lamar Partin, CSsR; graveside service to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Baker.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Jones IV, Brian Sears, Barton Mayeux, Lanson Thomas, Dale Achord, and Lee Patterson.

Memorial donations can be made to March of Dimes.
