Mary Francis Walters DeLatte (Mae Mae), 73, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at her home in Baker, La. surrounded by her family. She was born on May 26, 1941 in Tylertown, MS. to James and Evie Walters.
Mary was a 1959 graduate of Istrouma High School, and retired after working many years in the finance business as a loan officer and collector. She was an avid Elvis fan, and made trips to Memphis every August for Elvis Week with her special friends, Joe and Yolonda Fitzgerald of New Hampshire, who referred to Mary as wife number two. "LOVE IT!" But the times she treasured most were those spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Alfred L. DeLatte; two daughters and son-in-laws, Stacey Thornton and Larry Kent of Zachary, and Dawanna and Bubby Champagne of Baker; three grandchildren, Justin Thornton and wife Belinda, of Ashdown Ark., Blaine Allen and husband Mike, of Central, and Tiffany Brister and husband Justin, of Walker; seven great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Champagne, Gage Allen, Kennedy Thornton, Jonah Thornton, Lexie Allen, Kaleigh Brister, and Hannah Brister; a brother, Hulon Walters of Baker; two sisters- in-law, Melba DeLatte Fontenot and husband Ricky, of Denham Springs, and Alice DeLatte Welch and husband Marion (Pee Wee) of Zachary; longtime family friends, Kitty and Ken Funderburk; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Evie Walters; stepfather, Martin Newchurch; father-in-law and mother in law, Lawrence and Margurite DeLatte; sister, Joyce Walters Ashford; sisters-in-law and brothers- in- law, Sylvia Brabham Walters, Shirley DeLatte and T.D. Norton, and Wallace and Lorraine DeLatte.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Justin Thornton, Mike Allen, Justin Brister, James Walters, Tommie Walters, and David Norton.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 5:00pm-8:00pm, and on Friday, January 23, from 9:00am until religious services in the chapel at 11:00am, conducted by Rev. Everett Hurley. Burial to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge.
