Marie Theresa Austin Decker went to the Lord at 10:14pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 while at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in New Roads, Louisiana. She was attended by her son and the many members of her family who visited throughout her last days. She was born on November 12, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Felix and Neila Austin.
Always a source of joy to any who spent time in her presence, Marie had the ability to adopt any person in her presence as a spiritual son or daughter with genuine concern and a loving smile.
She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, a convert to The Faith, and proud communicant each week while her family served in various capacities at the Holy Mass.
Visitation will take place at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 5-8pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30pm and Vigil for the Deceased to follow. Visitation will resume at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, on Monday, August 28, from 9am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by The Rev. Fr. Christopher J. Decker and concelebrated by priests of the Diocese of Baton Rouge and other representative dioceses. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.
She leaves to intercede for her soul her son, The Rev. Fr. Christopher J. Decker, of whom she was exceedingly proud, as well as many spiritual grandchildren that she generously received through the gift of his priesthood, and her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Preceding her in death were her husband of 46 years, Basil Irvin Decker, Jr., with whom she shared the Sacrament of Marriage, as well as her brothers Richard, Bubba, Bennett, and sister Norma Lee. She is survived by her bothers Charles and Larry.
May Eternal Rest be granted to her and may the angels lead her into Paradise. May Our Savior Jesus Christ and Mary, our mother and queen, enfold her in the tender mercies of Our Almighty Father, whose loving hand held hers throughout her entire life.
