Marguerite "Maugie" Keller Herring, 68 years old, was called to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She entered this world on January 23, 1956, born to Mary Joyce Bush and James Clayton Keller, Sr., in Lafayette, LA. Marguerite's life was a shining example of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
A proud graduate of Baker High School in 1973, Marguerite continued her education at Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education in 1977. While at LSU she married her high school sweetheart, Randy Herring. Their enduring love was marked by the arrival of their beautiful daughter, Leslie, in 1978.
Following graduation, Marguerite joined her father at Keller Oil Company, dedicating many years to the business and supporting her family. Her enthusiasm for LSU sports and the Houston Astros was matched only by her selflessness and the boundless love she shared with those around her. Marguerite was known for her willingness to help others, often giving the clothes off her back to those in need. One of her best qualities was that Marguerite never met a stranger.
Marguerite's greatest joy came from her family. She delighted in watching her granddaughter Adelle's performances and plays, and she took immense pride in her grandsons Quinn and Hayes and their love for baseball. Her affection for her dogs Ellie, Maggie, and Belle was evident in her daily life. Marguerite also cherished traveling and found joy in her daily puzzles, whether from the newspaper or her puzzle books.
Married to Randy for 48 wonderful years, with their 49th anniversary approaching on July 26th, Marguerite's relationship with him was a testament to enduring love and partnership.
In honoring Marguerite's spirit, we are reminded of the verse: "Let all that you do be done in love" (1 Corinthians 16:14). Her life was a reflection of this love, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Marguerite is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Randy Herring; daughter, Leslie and husband Kevin Toler; grandchildren, Adelle, Quinn and Hayes Toler; 2 brothers, Dr. James Clayton Keller, Jr. and wife Valerie Sargent Keller, John Carl Keller and wife Bernadette Keller; sister, Helen Keller Harris; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marguerite is preceded in death by her father, James Clayton Keller, Sr.; mother, Mary Joyce Bush Keller; sister, Ann Lynnette Keller.
Pallbearers will be Dr. James Clayton Keller, Jr., John Carl Keller, Glenn Harris, Greg Harris, Garrett Harris, and Kevin Toler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Jacobs, Quinn Toler, Hayes Toler, and Lance Strain.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Fredric Regenstein, Tulane Medicine, for his tremendous care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The visitation will continue at Baker Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Deacon Shelley Joseph and Pastor Dale Hoffpauir. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
