Lois LaVerne Gurney Furr

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, foster mom, aunt, and dear friend to all who knew her; Lois LaVerne Gurney Furr, 88, born December 2, 1927, departed this earthly life to meet her Heavenly Father while holding the hand of her husband of 70 years, "Honey" with her children by her side, on January 24, 2016. She was a life-long resident of Central and a full-time homemaker, creating a home that brought comfort, love, and fun to all who entered. She was an avid flower gardener, seamstress, and quilter. As a member of the Friendship Force, she traveled to many countries and enjoyed hosting friends from around the world in her own home. Lois was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully as President of the Women's Relief Society Organization in both the Baton Rouge and Denham Springs Stakes. She also served a mission in Chartres, France with her husband.

Lois is survived by her husband, Donovan Crews Furr; step-sister, Mary Jane Barnett Pierce (Don); sons, Donovan Ray Furr (Linda) and Julius Randall Furr (Susie); a daughter, Virginia Maie Furr Jensen (Marlo); foster daughter, Ellen Hornsby Garver; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Julius H. and Lula Virginia Brown Gurney.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Tuesday, January 26, from 5-9pm. Visiting will resume at the L.D.S. Zachary Ward church building, 4901 Harding Street, Baker, on Wednesday January 27, from 9am until funeral service at 11am.

Interment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.

The family offers special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice staff, and the many dedicated friends and family that so graciously served and comforted Lois in her last days.
