I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 A resident of Baker, and a native of Tylertown, MS, he passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 6:40pm at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. He was 84, and retired from Mobil Oil. Len served four years in the United States Marine Corp, from 19481952, two of which he served as Sergeant in the 2nd Marine Tank Co. in the Korean War. Visiting at First Baptist Church of Baker, 3213 Groom Road, Baker, on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 59pm, and on Saturday, July 20, 2013, from 9am until religious services at 11am, conducted by Rev. Dennis Allen. Interment with military honors to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Survived by wife of 61 years, Norma Lou Thomas Herring of Baker daughter and soninlaw, Jan and Jesse Ballard of Baker son and daughterinlaw, Randy and Marguerite Keller Herring of Zachary three sisters and two brothersinlaw, Mary Frances Crain of Hattiesburg, MS, Joann and Donald Wayne Gerald of Pine, LA, and Brenda and Kendall Crain of Tylertown, MS two brothers and a sisterinlaw, Ernest and Juanita Herring of Baker, and Charles Herring of Sandy Hook, MS five grandchildren, Shaun, Jennifer, Haleigh, Leslie, and Cheryl 10 greatgrandchildren, Adelle, Quinn, Blake, Sierra, Brandun, Gavin, Kobie, Kalie, Jeremiah, and Lizzie and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Oakley Roberta Hobgood Herring four brothers, Stanley Jr, M.D., Harold, and infant brother, O.D. Herring three sisters, Bernice McKenzie, Sarah Jane Stringer, and Peggy Garner and grandson, Jeremy Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Kevin Toler, Jason Payne, Wes Ory, Shaun Mitchell, Kobie Anderson, and Zack Graham. Honorary pallbearers are Baker Boyd, Larry Thomas, Norman E. Pete Heine, Larry Crain, and Rev. Everett Hurley. Len was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, football, and keeping up with world news.He was a dedicated and loving husband and father, and especially loved his grandchildren. We would like to thank family and friends for their love and support. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake for treating Len with compassion and loving care. He left his family with many great memories, and he will be deeply missed.
