RUSHING, Joseph Joe Eugene A retired conductor for Illinois Central Railroad and a resident of Central, Joseph Eugene Rushing passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at about 11am in Baton Rouge at the age of 81. He was a former longtime Baker resident, and a native of Spring Creek, LA. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Rd, Baker, on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 from 5-9pm. Visiting at the funeral home chapel on Sat. Dec. 19, 2009 from 8am until religious services at 10am, conducted by Rev. Dan Dix. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bobbie M. Rushing; three daughters, Sharyl Rushing of Watson, Gladys Gay Rushing of Tomball, TX, and Cynthia Rushing of New Market, Tennessee; four sons, Daryl Rushing Jimmy Rushing, both of Watson, Johnny Rushing of New Market, TN, and Wayne Rushing of Plantersville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Kathy, Wendy, Christy, Jill, Rhonda, Daniel Joseph D.J., and Michael; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Bell; a brother, Clayben Rushing; and his parents, Linnie Willie Rushing. Pallbearers will be Gary Etheridge, Kenneth Lang, Michael Danna, Dwayne Bennett, Keith Tanner, and Michael Rushing. Honorary pallbearers are John Odom, Willie James, Randy May, and Sammy Sansone. Joe was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Central. He was a lifelong musician and lover of music. He was a generous man and gave unselfishly to others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assn. or the American Diabetes Assn.
