Joseph Philibert "JP" Major, Jr., 82 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on September 27, 1941, born to Joseph and Louise Major, in Ventress, LA. He was a faithful member of St. Isidore Catholic Church for many years. JP will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family. He grew up with the mindset of the only way to get the job done is hard work even if it took long hours. Along with his love for work came a special adoration for the outdoors. JP was a very special man to his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Gail Johnson Major; son, Todd Major (Denise); 2 daughters, Dana Major Conaway (Chris) and Stacey Major Parker (Jeff); 4 grandchildren, Heather, Hayden, Claire and Natalie; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Maevis, and Maks; brother, Kenneth Deselle (Vicki); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Philibert Major, Sr.; mother, Louise Major Desselle; brothers, Charles Major and Sonny Major; and sister, Annette Bordelon (Garrett).
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Conaway, Jeff Parker, Tyler Slocum, Hayden Major, Kenneth Desselle, Jim Arceneaux, and Maks Major.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 PM, officiated by Father Frank Bass. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
