JOHN ERNEST PICKERING JR.
A resident of Baker, John Ernest Pickering, Jr. was born March 13, 1930, in East Baton Rouge Parish, Baton Rouge, LA. to John and Fannie Wilson Pickering. He grew up in Baton Rouge. On Jan. 15, 1952, he and Phyllis Ginn were married in Slayton, Minn. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and a Veteran of the Korean war. When he returned from the war they settled in Baker, where they raised their family. He was close to his family and enjoyed his grandchildren. John passed away in Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 04, 2010, at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 from 69pm, and on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, from 8am until religious services in the chapel at 10am, conducted by Pastor Paul Brill. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Survived by his daughter, Debra Tanner of Baker two sons and daughtersinlaws, Harold and Valerie Guier Pickering of Tomball, Texas, and Steven and Denise Blackwell Pickering of Denham Springs three grandchildren, Rebecca Tanner ODonal and husband Patrick ODonal of El Paso, TX, and Christy Pickering and Garrett Pickering of Tomball, TX and two greatgrandchildren, Evie Pickering and MaKayla ODonal.
Preceded in death by his father, John E. Pickering, Sr., his mother Fannie Wilson Pickering wife, Phyllis Ginn Pickering four brothers, Dewey Pickering, Cade Pickering, Shirly Pickering, and Alvin Pickering and four sisters, Nellie Pickering, M.L. Pickering Nawadny, Monell Pickering, and Mabel Pollyanna Polly Pickering Dolhonde.
