After almost six years of suffering from the effects of a stroke, John passed away March 20, 2012 at his home. He was 78, a resident of Baton Rouge, and a US Army veteran. He is now home in Heaven. All the pain and suffering is over there is perfect joy and peace. John was a native of Oloh, Mississippi, and retired from LSU Food Service. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Harding Street Baptist Church, and a Gideon. He loved to play golf with his brothers, friends, and best friend, Russell Drinnon. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 68pm. Visiting at Harding Street Baptist Church, 4345 Harding Street, Baker, on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 10am until religious services at 11am, conducted by Rev. Phillip Parnell and Chaplain Barry Lagg. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Spiers Bennett son and daughterinlaw, Ronnie and Dana Bennett granddaughter, Chelsea three brothers and sistersinlaw, Robert and Mary Ann Bennett, R.D. and Mary Nell Bennett, and Donald and Charlene Bennett two sisters and brothersinlaw, Carol and Ralph Bullock, and Ollie Ann and Buddy Bailey and three brothersinlaw and their wives, Buddy and Beth Spiers, Larry and Sarah Dobbins, and Farrel and Ritha Peron. Preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Azzie Bennett motherinlaw, Marvis Spiers Kimball and sisterinlaw, Joann Boyd. Pallbearers are Buddy Spiers, Larry Dobbins, Robert Bennett, R.D. Bennett, Todd Bennett, and Russell Drinnon. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Bennett, Farrel Peron, Ralph Bullock, and Buddy Bailey.
