Jimmie Doyle Thaxton, 83 years old and a resident of Baker, LA was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on August 22, 1938, born to Reba and John Thaxton, Jr., in Longview, MS. Jimmie honorably served his country in the Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker. Jim graduated from Liberty High School, MS. He joined the Air Force on November 12, 1958. He served in Germany as a Military Police Officer, guarding missiles during the Cuba Crises. When later Jim moved to Lake Charles for work, he met his wife, the love of his life Merline Bussell February 14, 1964. He went on to work at Tembec Papermill in St. Francisville as a pipefitter for 32 years. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Wanda B. Thaxton; sons, Jimmy Thaxton, Jr. (Jerrie) and Ralph Thaxton; 5 grandchildren, Ryan "Scotty" Thaxton, Autumn Thaxton, Jobi Thaxton (Todd) and Jaeln Thaxton (Travis); 5 great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Brayden, Aubrie, Karsyn, and Noella; brothers, Wayne Thaxton (Elena) and Ronnie Thaxton (Kathy); special aunt, Peggy Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews. Jimmie is preceded in death by his father, John Robert Thaxton; mother, Reba Mann Thaxton; and grandchildren, Jory Thaxton. Serving as pallbearers will be Ralph Thaxton, Jaeln Thaxton, Travis Rodgers, Todd Dantin, Scotty Thaxton, and Eric Thaxton and honorary pallbearer, Kirk Spring. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral at 11:30 AM, officiated by Reverend Jay Avance. The graveside service with military honors will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery, in Zachary, Louisiana. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Kent Rhodes and Pinnacle Hospice for the exceptional care provided. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gideons International.
