Jewel McGurk Young

A resident of Baker, Jewel passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in New Roads. She was 87, and a native of Manifest, LA.

Jewel is survived by three children, Bobby Young and wife Margaret of Deer, Arkansas, Michael Young and wife Cindy of Lake City, Colorado, and Pamela Melon and husband Glenn of Glynn, LA nephew, Jerry Lofton of Pollock, LA niece, Betty Butler of Vian, Oklahoma and numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and greatgreat grandchildren who reside throughout the United States.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Hardy Louis Young sister, Ruby McGurk Bonner, formerly of Pollock, LA and her parents, Barney and Frankie McGurk, formerly of Pollock, LA.

Jewel instilled in her entire family the love of travel, especially to the desert and mountains of the western United States where she and Louis spent so many years traveling together.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all of Jewels caretakers at Lakeview Manor Nursing Facility, Pointe Coupee Hospice, and Health Source One sitter service, for the care, compassion, and companionship given to Jewel during her final months of care.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Tuesday, September 9, from 88:45am. Graveside services will follow at 9am at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6305 Groom Road, Baker, LA, officiated by Rev. Basil Wicker.

Jewel is now reunited with Louis, and they are on their grandest journey of all.
