Jesse R. Coleman, Sr.
A resident of Baker, Jesse passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was 90, and a retired process operator with Exxon with over 40 years of service. He was born in Dry Prong, and raised at the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home. Jesse was a proud US Army veteran of World War II, and was a former POW. He was a recipient of the many medals, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Wednesday, May 28, from 10am until religious services in the chapel at 1pm, conducted by Rev. Kevin Hand. Interment with military honors to follow in Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary.
Jesse is survived by a daughter, Christine Coleman a son, Jesse R. Coleman, Jr. and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Coleman Steele and his wife, Lillie Effie Smith Coleman.
Jesse was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, Redstick Ex POWs, VFW, and American Legion. He was a generous and loving father and grandfather. He was a master gardener, and could fix anything except a broken heart. He donated time and money to many organizations, especially to the orphanage where he was raised. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home in Monroe, LA.
