Jerry Glen Epperson went to be with our dear Lord on Friday, April 22, 2022. Jerry was the son of the late Willard and Zola Epperson, brother to the late Bobby Epperson, and first cousin to Dr. Jim White. Jerry was married to Rose Nell Creel for 64 years.
Jerry and Rose had three children: Dr. Larry Wayne Epperson. Larry is married to Jennifer Scott, and they have four children - Jessica, Weston, Elisabeth, and Sarah. Larry and Jennifer also have three grandchildren - Estes, Robert and Lander.
Jerry and Rose's second son is CH (LTC) retired David Glen Epperson. David is married to Deborah Herr, and they have one daughter - Victoria. David and Deborah also have one granddaughter - Esmee.
Jerry and Rose's last child was Jeri Lyn Epperson Kenyon. Lyn retired from the Baton Rouge School System. Lyn passed away and went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2021. Lyn was married to Lester Kenyon.
Jerry Epperson attended Baker High School, and he was a member of four high school state championships including two in football, one in basketball, and one in baseball.
Jerry received a football scholarship to Northwestern State University where he played four years at center and linebacker. Jerry graduated with honors in Mathematics/Physical Education. He was the Corps Commander of ROTC and a distinguished military student.
Jerry's first coaching and teaching job was at Coushatta, Louisiana in 1955. Jerry served on active duty in the Army in 1957. Jerry, Rose and the children later moved to Baker and Jerry began coaching and teaching at Westdale Junior High. Jerry then coached at Broadmoor High School from 1960-1967. As head coach in 1966, Jerry won a state championship, and he was named coach of the year in Louisiana.
In 1968, Jerry became the Assistant Principal at Baker High School. He served as Principal from 1969-1987. His Assistant Principals were Lee Faucette, Richie Bulloch, and Alan Spears. Coach Larry Thomas was later added as the Dean of Students. Jerry loved and appreciated them, and they were some of his closest friends.
From 1988-1994, Jerry served as Director of High Schools, and in 1995 he served as the School Board Superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish. He later served as the Superintendent of the Baker School System from 1999-2003.
Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker, Louisiana. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer for 50 years.
Jerry will be greatly missed, but his soul is now with the Lord Jesus. He is with Rose, Lyn, and the saints in glory.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First Baptist Church Baker, 3213 Groom Road, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 11:30 AM until the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Reverend Corey Olivier and Reverend Jay Avance. The graveside service will follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery, in Zachary, Louisiana.
