James Elder Hoss Carpenter

A resident and native of Baker, James passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. He was 83, a retired carpenter, and a former captain with the Highland Road station of the Baton Rouge Fire Dept.

Visiting at Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Road, Baker, on Friday, May 16, from 10am until religious services at noon, conducted by Rev. Marie Williams. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

James is survived by a daughter and soninlaw, Ella and Ronald Duncan two sons, James E. Jay Carpenter, Jr. and Ashton Carpenter stepdaughter, Melanie Stone stepson, Hank Emory sister, Marie Starnes brother, Lathan Carpenter 10 grandchildren, Jamie Carpenter, Matthew Carpenter, Todd Duncan, Ashton Carpenter II, David Carpenter, Danielle Carpenter, April Lirette, Kelly Liebert, Will Stone, and Kimberly Emory and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carpenter two brothers five sisters and his parents, Poleat and Dan Ella Carpenter.

James was a longtime member of Blackwater UMC. He was an avid fisherman, especially with his siblings in their younger days. He raised a large garden, and always gave away veggies. He was a friend to all, and never met a stranger. James will be greatly missed.
