Jack Carrol Toler, Jr.
A lifelong resident of Baker, Jack passed away peacefully on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19, 2016, at his residence. Jack was born in Baton Rouge, the oldest child of Jack Carrol Toler, Sr. and Opal Nichols Toler in 1926. Jack celebrated his 90th birthday in May with a family crawfish boil. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Beth on Sept. 23, 1945, and was married for 65 years when she passed away on Nov 11, 2010. Jack attended Chapel Hill and the University of Maryland where he played football for a young coach named Paul "Bear" Bryant. Jack graduated from LSU with a degree in Geology in 1947. Jack was in ROTC and was in the process of joining the Navy Navigation School just as WW II ended. He retired from Exxon in 1982. Jack was a charter member of the Baton Rouge Sail and Power Squadron and taught boating safety classes for many years. Jack's other love was his 34 ft. boat, "Sea Princess". Jack and Beth enjoyed many trips across the Gulf of Mexico and beyond with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Sue Carol Toler and her sons, Beau J. Bourgeois, Brandon Toler Bourgeois and wife Kacie, their children, Destiny Hutchinson, Brenden Toler Bourgeois and Adleigh, all of Baker; daughter, Treasure Kay Hurst of Irving, Texas and Treasure's children, Chantelle Hurst, Belmont, NC, and John L. Hurst, IV, and wife Lily of Lake Placid, Fla.; daughter, Adele(Dell) Faye Travis and husband Terry of Zachary, and their son Ryan Travis and wife, Beth and their girls, Alice and Georgia of Fayetteville, Ark.; and great-grandchildren, Sean Capello II and Raegan Kimball of Central. Jack is also survived by his siblings, Ann Haley of Watson, Jean Whaley of Central, and Jimmie Toler and wife Evelyn of LaPlace; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Marie Elizabeth (Beth) Morvant Toler; parents, Jack and Opal Toler; grandson, Brent Travis; granddaughter, Angela Kimball; and brothers-in-law Robert Haley and Ben Whaley.
The family wishes to express thanks to Life Source Hospice, Lane Home Health Care and Dr. Reagan Elkins for the care they gave Jack. Also, the family wishes to express their love and appreciation to Dorothy Ernest and her daughter, Deidra Jackson for the love and excellent care they gave to Jack. Dorothy has been his devoted caregiver since 2009.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until services at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Reverend Gene Rives. Graveside service will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to Baton Rouge Sail & Power Squadron, P. O. Box 748, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. It's comforting to know Jack and Beth are once again on their "Sea Princess" and cruising through eternity together.
