A resident of Baker and a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, he passed away Saturday March 16, 2013 in Baton Rouge. He was 66, and retired from DOTD. Daddy and Paw Paw were his favorite words to hear and he was blessed with a loving wife of 47 years and many treasured friends. He was a former member of the Baton Rouge Bowling Association. He always looked forward to his Monday night card games with his friends. He spent many of his younger years coaching baseball, football and basketball and later enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. He spent his last hours at the ballpark doing what he loved to do. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, from 5:009:00pm on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Visiting resumes at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, celebrated by Fr. Frank Bass. Interment to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by wife Sheila Sharkey of Baker daughter and soninlaw, Tammy Sharkey Starnes and Jason Starnes of Central two sons and a daughterinlaw, J.J. and Janai Sharkey, and Blaine Sharkey, all of Baker a brother and sisterinlaw, David Scott Sharkey and Melinda Sharkey of Baker and four grandchildren, Justin Starnes, Jaylan Gerald, Jack B. Sharkey, and Joella Whitney Sharkey. Preceded in death by parents, Jack Oliver Sharkey and Nancy Miller Sharkey and a brother, Blair Sharkey. Pallbearers will be Justin Starnes, Jaylan Gerald, Blaine Sharkey, Roger Blouin, Doug Odendahl, and Bo Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Starnes, Troy Paxton, Rodger Aucoin, Scott Sharkey, Jim McGrew, Eric Blalock, and Mike Gerald. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.
