Horace "Doon" Wilkinson, Jr., 92, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather was called to his eternal resting place on October 18, 2016. He entered this world on March 3, 1924 in Liberty, MS. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and received a Victory Medal for his service.
Horace was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, especially listening to his dogs on a good fox hunt. He had a great compassion for animals and always kept a faithful dog by his side. He worked hard providing for his family retiring from Ideal Cement Company.
He is survived by his two daughters, Suzie Durrett and husband Doug and Tracy DiBenedetto; two sons, Eric Wilkinson and wife Jamie and Kurt Wilkinson; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and sister, Barbara Holloway.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Anna Maria "Annie" Wilkinson; parents Horace and Nora Forman Wilkinson; son-in-law, Bobby DiBenedetto; brothers, Carl, Joe, Soule, Hewitt, and Bobby "Pete" Wilkinson; sisters, Anna Grace Wilkinson, Ada Toler, Gladys Ducote, and Doris Breechen.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Mike Morris and Reverend Huey Moak. Graveside service and military honors will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Baker.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at the Louisiana War Veterans Home and Dr. Anna Smithers.
