Herman "Leon" Duncan
Herman Leon Duncan, age 88, a resident of Baker and native of Lamar County, Alabama, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 7:05am at The Butterfly Wing of The Hospice of Baton Rouge. Leon served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War and was a retired Millwright. Leon was a member of Millwrights Local 720 and Faith Baptist Church. Leon enjoyed traveling to Bluegrass Music Festivals, camping, and gardening.
Leon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Owens Duncan; sons, Randall Leon Duncan, David Carroll Duncan (fiancé Dionne Vessier), Keith Alan Duncan (wife Sheryl Heughan Duncan); eight grandchildren, Melissa E. Craig, Joshua L. Duncan, Ansley E. Duncan, Frank D. Lees, Trevor Youngblood, Courtney Caruso, Zachary Caruso, and Ashley Honeycutt; and five great-grandchildren; Isabelle, Elizabeth, Priya, Joshua Jr., and Cheyenne.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Tandy Mose Duncan and Willie Florence Springfield Duncan; one brother, James Raiford Duncan; two sisters, Alice Juanita Duncan Bradford and Dorthy Jean Duncan Ethridge; and oldest grandson, David C. Duncan Jr.
Visiting hours will be observed at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker on Wednesday, February 24th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Thursday, February 25th at 8:00 am until funeral services at 10:00 am. Interment and graveside services will take place at 1:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville, Mississippi.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Duncan, Trevor Youngblood, Mike Bradford, Robert Bonds, Jason Reece, and Don Covington. Honorary pallbearer is Dale Owens.
He was a loving husband and great father that provided well for his family, and he will be deeply missed.
