Fred Richard Dixon, Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, Retired. A resident of Zachary, LA. Fred went to be with his Heavenly Father in the early morning hours on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Fred was born in Statesboro, Georgia September 28, 1926. He graduated from high school there and then entered the Army during WWII and served for 22 years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During this time, he served in Europe and the Far East. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, ETO Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation medal for Germany and Japan, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal Sixth Award, and the Louisiana War Veterans Service Medal. He was the oldest living WWII veteran living in Zachary. After retiring from the Army, he lived in Shreveport, La. for 22 years. There he was employed by the Caddo Parish School System as an ROTC Instructor. He retired after 22 years receiving the Army Commanders Award for Public Service.
Fred is survived by his two loving daughters, Linda Susann Tippett Picard (Larry) and Carol Jean Dixon Guarnieri (John); 3 grandchildren, Matthew W. Tippett, Kenleigh Almeida (Carlos), and Nick Tippett (Lindsay); and 4 great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Camille, Winrie, and Wesley.
Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith Maria Dixon; his father, Council Arden Dixon; mother, Allie Lee Whitaker Dixon; and numerous siblings.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Tippett, Matt Tippett, John Guarnieri, Ben Toler, Will Lampton, and Carlos Almeida.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation and viewing at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker LA, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 5:00 PM until the Eulogy Service at 7:00 PM. Visiting will continue at the Plains Presbyterian Church, 22929 Old Scenic Hwy, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Ricky Glenn. The graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Plains Presbyterian Memorial Gardens, in Zachary, Louisiana.
