Ferdinand Ferdie Howell Payne, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 28, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 28, 1935 and was 76 years old. Ferdie was a lifelong resident of Baker. He was a retired site manager with The Newtron Group and Local 198. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, friend and coach. Ferdie truly loved life and expressed it so very well through his family, friends, sons and daughter. His devotion to family was key. Ferdie was an avid hunter, especially elk and turkey hunting, and shared his passion with his family and friends. The family with grateful hearts enjoyed life with a man larger than life. Their memories, along with those that had the pleasure to know him, will burn forever bright in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Gloria Kennon Payne, his mother and father, Ferdinand Sr. and Ida Payne. He is survived by his three sons, Robbie Payne and wife Beverly, Mark Payne, Brett Payne and wife Liz his daughter, Laurie Payne Ryan grandchildren, Derrick and his wife Shelly, Denver, Devin, Gentry, and Trent Payne and his fiance Ally, Gina Garner and her husband Cass, Jori Payne, Alixandra and Kaden Ryan greatgrandchildren, Alexia and Weston Garner, Draven Payne, Audrey and Olivia Payne. He is also survived by his brothers, Clyde Bo Payne, Thomas Payne and wife Diane, Jerry Payne and wife Bennie, Mike Payne and wife Nancy. His sisters Holly and husband Charles, Ida Mae Payne and husband Marlon, and Winnie Landry. Much love and gratitude to his sister Winnie for taking such good care of Ferdie during his extended illness. Also special thanks to Baton Rouge Hospice for their special care and support. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 5pm9pm, and on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 11am, conducted by his nephew, Pastor Layne Payne. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Michael James Jimbo Payne and Jefferey Payne Kennedy.
