Eugene "Gene" Rester, 91 years old, beloved husband and Father, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on December 12, 1932, born to Myrtle and Albert Rester, in Varnado, Louisiana. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Varnado, Louisiana. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Zachary.
He worked for Crowne Zellerbach Papermill, which later become James Rivers Papermill. Later in life he owned E & D Machine Shop in Slaughter, Louisiana for almost 10 years. Eugene was proficient in carpentry and vegetable gardening. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his teenage years he worked for his neighbors, whatever he could do to help, sometimes even by the light of the moon.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Dorothy "Dot" Rester; son, Ronald Rester and his wife Wanda; sister, Marie Breeland; and Brother, Rodney Rester and wife Louise.
Eugene is preceded in death by his father, Albert Rester; mother, Myrtle Rester; granddaughter, Denise Rester.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Waxley, Charles Verrett, Timothy Williams, Mark Hathorne, Vernon Hughes, and Andrew Forque.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First Baptist Church, 4200 Main Street, Zachary, LA, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Eddie Wren. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, LA.
