Ernest Herring

Ernest Herring, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend to many, was called to his eternal resting place on August 21, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on November 12, 1924 in Bogalusa, LA, born to Stanley and Oakley Herring. He was raised in Sandy Hook, MS, and was long-time resident of Baker. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, retired from Exxon Refinery in Baton Rouge, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Baker. He spent his golden years traveling, gardening, playing his guitar, and being with his family at every opportunity.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Juanita Dunaway Herring; daughters, Paula and husband, Butch Westbrook, and Cheryl and husband, Bill Ory; grandchildren, Monica Decker, Cherisse and husband, Brandon Carey, Cyndi and husband, Todd Kearney, Wesley and Crystal Ory; great-grandchildren, Frank Lees, Jr., Melissa Craig, Joshua Duncan, Harley Johnson, Jeremy and Ashlynn Kearney; great-great grandchildren, Isabelle and Elizabeth Craig, Solara Johnson, Priya and Joshua Duncan, Jr.; and 3 sisters.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Oakley Herring, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Butch Westbrook, Bill Ory, Todd Kearney, Wes Ory, Joshua Duncan, and Jeremy Kearney.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Valentine, Randy Herring, Frank Lees, Jr., Harley Johnson, Kevin Herring, and Stan Herring.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Wednesday, August, 23, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Baker Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Jay Avance. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker, LA.
