A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and friend to many, Emmett "Smitty, Lefty" Smith, Jr, passed away into the presence of the Lord, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. He was 93 years old and a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. His senior year at Baker High School, Emmett and his team won the basketball state championship. After high school, he pitched for the National Championship Fast Pitch Softball winning team. He retired after 40 years of service from Allied Chemical.
Preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Elma Smith; his first wife Rita Mae Phillips Smith and second wife, Dolores Ard Smith; and sister, Dot (Donna Douglas).
Survived by his daughters, Pamela Vaccaro (Nicky), Lynne Kennedy (Jim); sons, Michael Smith (Charlene) and Brad Smith; 11 grandchildren, Tasha Daniel, Ashley Gebbia, Sean Vaccaro, Mikelyn Sumner, Michael Smith, Mandy Johnson, Kirstie, Destiny, Alyssa, Aaliyah, and Jaden; 16 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sean Vaccaro, Jim Kennedy, Michael Smith, Hunter Gebbia, Hayden Gebbia and Danny Bourgeois
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, officiated by Fr. Frank Bass. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, in Baker, Louisiana.
