Elva Valentine Meyers
A resident of Slaughter, Elva passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Saturday, July 18, 2015. She was 98, and a native of Deerford, LA.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Monday, July 20, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 10am, conducted by Rev. T.W. Terrell and Bro. Arnold Austin. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Serving as pallbearers are Bailey Mac, Dana Tucker, Ronnie Valentine, Erman R. Hunt, Robert Maranto, and Chris Young. Honorary pallbearer is Cody Tucker.
Elva is survived by daughter, Patsy Tucker; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry "Shot" and Sheila Smith; sister, Edna Burns; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Rufus Meyers; parents, Ambrose Valentine and Jodie Browning Valentine; two sisters, and a brother.
Elva was a longtime member of Lanier Baptist Church. She loved traveling with Rufus in their younger years. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, bingo, and word search games. Elva had a long and happy life; she was a special person, and will be deeply missed.
