Elmaid Ducote Houk
A resident of Baker, Elmaid passed away peacefully at Flannery Oaks Guest House, on Thursday, April 02, 2015. She was 82, and a native of Evergreen, LA. She was a 1953 graduate of Our Lady of the Lake Nursing College, and was a very dedicated Registered Nurse. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Monday, April 6, from 10am until religious services in the chapel at 1pm, conducted by Deacon Don Ard. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Elmaid is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rhonda and Randy Langlois, Wanda and Larry Harding, and Jolie Houk; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Lynne Houk, and Joel Houk; 18 grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Blakely, Chad, Dustin, Renee', Jill, Ty, Jamie, Mike, Devin, Miranda, Gabriel, Zachary, Colby,. Christina, Tim, and Josh; a plethora of great-grandchildren; and former husband and father of her children, James Houk, Jr.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jeb Houk; a brother, Idell Ducote; and her parents.
Elmaid was a devoted longtime member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. Although she was a really bad driver, she was a dedicated and loving wife and mother who put her children ahead of everything else. She brought so much fun and laughter to our lives; she was witty and never met a stranger. She truly was our angel on Earth.
