Edna Lee Gayle Kennedy, 88, who was a resident of Zachary, passed away on April 19, 2016 at Lane Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Edna was the epitome of a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, Maw Maw, friend and homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Whitehills Homemakers Club in Baker. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and it was here that she nurtured and fed those she loved throughout her lifetime. Her every Sunday Dinner ritual and holiday "feasts" have left indelible memories for three generations of loved ones, for her cooking wasn't measured by cups and spoons, but by the immeasurable amounts of love poured into every dish. Her gift of a "listening ear" and her words of faith and wisdom will be sorely missed.
Edna is survived by her three sons, Kenneth R . Kennedy, and Fred M. (Marie ) Kennedy of Zachary; Roy S. (Denise) Kennedy of Prairieville, LA.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Shelton J. (Delores) Kennedy of Prairieville and David L. (Barbara) Kennedy of Denham Springs ; 6 grandchildren and spouses : Melissa K. (Phillip) Chamberlian, Lance M. (Lauren) Kennedy, Melanie K. (Robert) Graham; Christi K. (Kirk) Edwards, Tara K.(Scott) Watson, and Michael R. (Jenny) Kennedy; 15 great grandchildren Spirit, Kanyun, Willow, and Wren Hoffpauir; Kendyl and Zane Edwards; Lynnox and Larsyn Kennedy; Ethan, Kamryn, Maddox and Hayden Watson; Hunter and Annasy Graham; Jackson Kennedy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Raymond Kennedy; parents Alfred Sidney and Mary Chemin Gayle; brothers Roy Carlton Gayle, Sidney Edgar Gayle, Harold Newsom Gayle, Oras Kent, Harvey Kent, and Milton Kent; sister-in-law Eunice V. Oliver and husband Newton; great grandson Aries M. Hoffpauir.
Visiting hours will be on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., immediately followed by a Celebration of Life officiated by the Reverend Chris A. Roberts of Zachary United Methodist Church.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Baker.
Memorial contributions can be made in Edna's memory to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
