Edna Earl Stringer Guilbeau, eighty-one years old, was surrounded by her loving family when she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 5, 2022. Edna was born to her parents, Estus and Myrtle Stringer, in Sumrall, Mississippi, on June 5, 1941. She was given her name after her mother read the 1866 novel St. Elmo, written by Augusta Jane Evans. The heroine of the story, Edna Earl, embodied godliness, beauty, class, and intelligence. Edna certainly lived up to her namesake. Edna was a devout follower of Jesus, an avid reader, and an exceptional cook as her homemade biscuits and chocolate pies were particularly famous amongst her family and friends.
Edna will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Donna Wells and husband Bob Hughes, Donald E. (Eddie) Wells Jr. and wife Stacy, and Dee Fellows and husband Dave, her first husband and father of her children, Donald Wells, her grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Katy Dix and husband Robin, Amanda Eastman and husband Matthew, Brandon Neames and wife Angela, Rebecca Camp and husband Josh, and Victoria Nickel and husband Andrew, her great-grandchildren, Skye and Caden Dix, Isaac and Dean Camp, Judah, Ellie, and Audrey Eastman, and Landon and Lawson Neames, as well as her sisters Pauline Guice and Sadie Strahan.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Norris Guilbeau, her parents, Estus and Myrtle Stringer, her brothers, Doris Stringer and Lonnie Owen Stringer, and her sisters Claudine McTaggart, Nevis Laird, and Mary Ruth Thames.
Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home in Baker, Louisiana, on Monday, December 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and the funeral will be officiated by Jeff Stanfill at 11:00 a.m. Graveside will be held at Cold Springs Church of Christ in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi at 1:30 pm.
Greg Guice, Robin Dix, Caden Dix, Joshua Camp, Brandon Neames, Matthew Eastman, and Andrew Nickel will serve as pallbearers.
