A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, foster dad, uncle and faithful friend to all who knew him; Donovan Crews Furr, 89, born January 10, 1927, departed this earthly life to meet his Heavenly Father on September 13, 2016 surrounded by his children and beloved friends. He and his Honey were residents of Central for 70 years. He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy as a radioman. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, hunting from Alaska, north Canada, thru the Louisiana swamps to Mexico's Rio Grande. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, served as Bishop of Baker Ward, Ordinance Worker at the Baton Rouge Temple and Missionary to the Paris, France Mission.
Donnie is survived by his sister, Nell Furr Achee; sons, Donovan Ray Furr (Linda) and Julius Randall Furr (Susie); daughter, Virginia Maie Furr Jensen (Marlo); foster daughter, Ellen Hornsby Garver; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents, Albert Troy, Sr. and Jessie Maie Crews Furr; brother, A.T. Furr, Jr. and his wife, Lois Laverne Gurney Furr.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Rd., Baker, on Friday, September 16, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visiting will resume at the L.D.S. Church Building, 4901 Harding Street, Baker on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 9:00 a.m. until funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.
The family offers special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice staff and the many dedicated friends and family that so graciously served and visited Donnie in his last days.
