A resident of Baker, and a native of Donaldsonville, he passed away Thursday, September 04, 2013 at Lane Regional Medical Center. He was 83, a retired steamfitter with Local 198, and a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Friday, September 6, from 59pm, and on Saturday, September 7, from noon until religious services in the chapel at 2pm. Interment with military honors to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Survived by wife of 60 years, Lorraine Bennett Simoneaux of Baker two daughters and a soninlaw, Linda Simoneaux of Prairieville, and Brenda and Donnie Wallace of Pride two sons and a daughterinlaw, Donald M. Jr. and Oggie Simoneaux of Baton Rouge, and Walter Simoneaux of St. Amant eight grandchildren, Donnie Wallace, Jr., Nick Simoneaux, Kevin Simoneaux, Billy Simoneaux, Stephanie Jordan, Dawn Simoneaux, Jenny Kulas, and Ashley Cobb seven greatgrandchildren, and one greatgreat grandchild due in December. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemence Ruiz and Lucien A. Simoneaux five sisters, two brothers. Donald was a lifetime member of the VFW, Jeb Stuart Post 4224 in Baker. He used to make bicycles for the neighborhood kids, and was the goto handyman. All the kids knew that when he whistled, it was time to go home.
