Dixie Louise Hawkins Hicks, 81 years old, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 18, 2017. She entered this world on February 9, 1936, in Starkville, MS., born to Bill and Ruby Hawkins. She worked most of her life as a bookkeeper in accounting and she was also a hairdresser in the Central community. She was a faithful member of the Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge. Dixie was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.
Dixie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Thurman Burns Hicks; daughter, Deborah Kay Hicks Dupuy; granddaughters, Shelby and Emily Dupuy with their father, Pat Dupuy; sister, Charlotte Austin; two sisters in-law, Norma Hawkins and Brenda Hawkins; two brothers in-law, Charles Lasseigne and Jimmy Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, William "Bill" and Ruby Ellis Hawkins; two brothers, Walker "Thad" Hawkins and Jimmie Hawkins; and two sisters, Sherry Hawkins Burton and Jackie Hawkins Lasseigne.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA., on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at Baker Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Wayne Austin of Healing Place Church will officiate the service. The graveside service and burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Baker.
